{"id":82,"date":"2016-06-22T09:16:38","date_gmt":"2016-06-22T13:16:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/paganheartinmaine.com\/Ramblings\/?p=82"},"modified":"2020-02-06T14:17:10","modified_gmt":"2020-02-06T19:17:10","slug":"on-depression-and-suicide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/paganheartinmaine.com\/Ramblings\/2016\/06\/22\/on-depression-and-suicide\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8230; On Depression and Suicide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">There is a shock and emptiness when someone you know and love is suddenly gone \u2026 and it takes time to process, to grieve \u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">For those who have taken their own life, their pain and their journey is over \u2026 and for those of us who stay and continue this life\u2019s journey, we deal with the pain and loss and we live \u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">We try to understand why this happened, why did they leave, how could they be so \u201cselfish\u201d, what did I do, or didn\u2019t do that could have changed this \u2026 there is the hurt, the emptiness, the anger \u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">So I\u2019m writing this, first, for the living \u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Nobody wants to talk about suicide \u2026 nobody wants to talk about depression \u2026 there seems to still be a taboo about the subject \u2026 people will mourn the death of a loved one, the shock of sudden loss, the sharing and the comforting of friends and family<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2026 and then when everyone is alone, when there is no one to hold onto or to share, they will think about how this happened \u2026 because the subject of suicide is a taboo and people shouldn\u2019t talk about it \u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2026 Bullshit \u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">NOW is the time to talk about it !\u2026 it is a part of your loved ones\u2019 life, not something to be hidden \u2026 you HAVE to talk about this surrounded by the ones you love!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">If your loved one dies from Cancer, or heart attack, or stroke \u2026 you talk about it, right?<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">Depression is a Cancer! It is a disease \u2026 Suicide is a heart attack \u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">a fatal stroke \u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">The questions come up when we are alone\u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201cI wish I had known it was that bad&#8230;\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2026Some of us have diseases in ourselves we don\u2019t know about at this very minute \u2026 this is a part of life \u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201cHow could they be so selfish \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2026 it has NOTHING to do with being selfish, the person who takes their own life is the victim of their disease \u2026 we would never say \u201c They had a heart attack, how could they be so selfish \u2026\u201d \u2026 it may seem like a choice \u2026 but it\u2019s not \u2026 suicidal ideology is a symptom of a disease \u2026 and when the depression and the pain become too great, your body says \u201cENOUGH\u201d \u2026 and gives up \u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u201cWhat if I had done this \u2026 or that \u2026or listened more\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2026these are the questions we ask because we desperately try to understand \u2026 we need to rationalize \u2026 we need to explain \u2026 to blame \u2026 someone or ourselves for this \u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">No \u2026 just no \u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8230; this is being struck by a car, this is a heart attack, this is something that NOBODY, not even the victim could stop \u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">People with Cancer go to doctors\u2026 get Chemo \u2026 get radiation \u2026 change diets and lifestyles and do EVERYTHING they need to do to get better \u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2026 and die anyway \u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">You can do all the right things \u2026 get counseling, get medication, call the suicide help lines, be surrounded by friends and family that love and support you \u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u2026and die anyways \u2026<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">There is nothing to rationalize&#8230;
